A Different Approach to Cell Transplantation

Moving Toward Human Testing

The collaboration between Continuity and Breakthrough T1D, funded through Breakthrough T1D's Industry Discovery and Development Partnership program, will support the preparation work needed before testing in humans. This includes IND-enabling development—the preclinical studies and manufacturing processes required by regulators before a first-in-human trial can begin.

If these steps proceed as planned, a Phase 1/2a clinical trial could begin testing NICHE in people living with Type 1 diabetes. Phase 1/2a studies typically focus on safety and early signs of effectiveness in a small group of participants, establishing whether the approach warrants larger-scale investigation.
